You can end your tenancy by giving 28 days notice in writing (beginning and ending on a Monday). Please remember that you will have to pay your rent until the end of your notice. Handing your keys in without notice does not end your tenancy and you may still be liable for rent. If there are any difficulties with this, contact your Area Housing Officer.
If a tenant passes away and you are a legally appointed executor you are able to bring the tenancy to an end as though you were the tenant.
If a tenant passes away without a Will then we need to bring the tenancy to an end on their behalf. Should this be the situation, please advise us and we will process it accordingly.
What must I remember?
- You must notify us in writing giving 28 days notice (beginning and ending on a Monday)
- You will need to notify the utility companies
- Keys must be returned to us, at our offices at 1 Grove Road , on or before 12 noon on the day your notice ends. If this does not happen you could be charged further rent. If you experience any problems returning your keys please contact your Area Housing Officer urgently.
- The fixtures and fittings should be left in good order and the premises cleared of all belongings and rubbish. We will recharge you with the cost of making good damage or clearance of the premises. We will also recharge if we have to change the locks because you did not return your keys.
- As a rule, non standard items excluding carpets or white goods (cookers and fridges) provided by us will not be allowed to remain in the property so we would urge you to dispose of them. If you have any queries on this, discuss it with your Area Housing Officer.
