We will, as a Landlord or Freeholder, insure the structure of your home but not the contents such as furniture, carpets, personal effects, appliances.
You need to insure the contents of your home. We will not be liable if these are damaged in an accident such as a fire or flood or if you have things stolen in a burglary.
We strongly advise you to take out insurance, as the cost of insurance is a tiny fraction of what it would cost you to replace lost household items. When taking out insurance, shop around for the best policy making sure that it is with a good company. It is important to include third party cover in case anyone claims against you e.g. if you leave a tap running and flood your neighbours' home.
We are only insured for damage to tenants property where it was our fault. You need to make claims to your Property Services Manager as soon as possible if this was the case.
Insurance companies would be pleased to give you information for free. There are also many companies who will let you spread your payments over weekly or monthly instalments.
