The following properties are not eligible for the Right to Buy Scheme:-
(Please note that these may not all be applicable to Eastbourne Borough Council properties)
- A property particularly suitable for occupation by people of pensionable age or people who are physically disabled, which is let particularly with these people in mind;
- Sheltered housing for the elderly, physically disabled, mentally ill or mentally disabled;
- Houses and flats on land which has been bought for development and which are being used as temporary housing;
- A property owned by an employer, let to an employee so that they can be near their work;
- A property forming part of, or within the enclosure of a building which is held mainly for purposes other than housing, or situated in a cemetery;
- Some homes which are let as part of a business or agricultural premises;
- Homes which the council has leased from someone else that have to be given up empty when the owner wants them back;
- Almshouses;
- Homes given to students so they can follow certain full-time courses at a university or college (unless the tenancy continues for more than six months after the tenant stops attending the course);
- Homes where the tenants have been given the tenancy of the property temporarily while they look for a permanent home, unless the tenants are still living there after one year;
- Homes due to be demolished where a demolition notice has been served;
- Homes which are let by a charitable registered social landlord, a charitable housing trust or association, by certain co-operative housing associations or other registered social landlord which has not received grants from public funds.
Defective Dwellings
Certain types of houses have been designated as defective, due to their construction.
If your home is a defective dwelling then we will inform you about this before you buy. You may encounter difficulties in getting a mortgage and you should be aware when deciding to buy that you may have difficulty in selling the property at a later date.
