Asbestos in the Home

Many older buildings were built using materials that contain asbestos, and naturally we are all aware of the dangers of asbestos so this section of our website aims to alleviate those concerns. Actually there are estimated to be around 5.5 million buildings in the UK which were built with materials that contain asbestos and this includes many local authority buildings such as our offices and possibly your home. However, the risk to you from asbestos in buildings, including your home, is very low.  Using the link to the right you can search for your home to find out the likelihood of asbestos in a range of locations which could help you when doing DIY.

How does Eastbourne Homes Limited manage asbestos in our customers' properties?

It is not possible or necessary to remove all materials which contain asbestos from our properties. The real risk from asbestos only comes when the asbestos becomes damaged - this is most commonly done by drilling, sawing or sanding materials that contain the asbestos. Our contractors are advised where asbestos can be found and take precautions when working with these materials in your homes. If you are planning home improvements or maintenance yourself always ask our permission in the first instance. Please remember that changes to the property are not permitted under the tenancy agreement without prior approval in writing from one of our surveyors.

Further details are available in the EHL 'Asbestos in the Home' booklet downloadable below.

Remember, do not try to deal with asbestos yourself!
