Leasehold Agreement

As a Leaseholder you have bought the right to live in your property for a fixed number of years (usually 125) and the flat can be bought and sold during that term. The actual building your property resides in is owned by the Freeholder (in your case Eastbourne Borough Council).

The Lease is a legal contract that contains your rights and obligations as a Leaseholder and the Council's rights and obligations as the owner of the Freehold.

Eastbourne Borough Council normally has two types of Leases. One for flats sold in blocks and one for maisonnette style dwellings (blocks of two, three or four flats, each with their own street entrance).

The Leaseholder Handbook contains the answers to many frequently asked questions and is available for download below. Alternatively you may wish to contact our Leasehold Administrator who will be happy to help.
