When we receive an application for Housing Benefit and/or Council Tax Benefit we will look at your circumstances and see whether you are eligible and, if so, how much benefit you should be paid.
We have an online benefits calculator you can use to calculate how much benefit you may be entitled to. After you have completed the calculation, if you think you may need to apply for benefits, please download the application form below.
Disclaimer : Please note that this is only an indication of possible entitlement. There are many things considered when working out benefit and no guarantee of a successful application can be given.
We will usually make a decision within 14 days of receiving a completed benefit form and associated information. If we require further details or the form is not complete we will write to you within two days to explain what further information we need.
The factors, which affect how much benefit you will get, include:
- money you and your partner have coming in, including earnings, most benefits and tax credits and things like occupational pensions
- yours and your partner's savings
- your circumstances, such as your age, the ages and size of your family, whether you or any of your family are disabled
- whether your household includes a non-dependant
- whether the amount of rent you pay is reasonable for your home when compared with similar properties
- whether your home is a reasonable size for you and your family
- whether the amount of rent is reasonable for the area your home is in
