Community Interpreters Graduation

We are pleased to announce that the 15 students who undertook our Community Interpreters training course graduated on Saturday 19th July 2008.  The Community Interpreting Scheme was a partnership project set up with Eastbourne Borough Council and South East Interpreting Services.

A graduation ceremony took place which was attended by the Mayor of Eastbourne who presented the students with their certificates.  This was followed by an international buffet which the students provided serving food from all around the world.

The Community Interpreters Scheme is all about capturing local Black and Minority Ethnic people’s skills to train to be interpreters.  Currently we have no interpreters living in Eastbourne which means additional travel costs when we use interpreting and translation facilities.

The students, who all speak English and at least one other language received free training, a Community Interpreting Level 3 Diploma and freelance employment with South East Interpreting Service.

We will be setting up a similar scheme in the near future.  If you are interested or know anyone who would be interested in putting their names forward please contact Traci Gasson using the contact details below.
