Green fingered pupils at Langney Primary School have got their hands full in the coming months as work gets underway to turn an area of unused ground into a ‘living classroom’.
Following a decision by the School Council, it was decided to make the ambitious scheme a top priority for the coming year.
This week Brian and Nikki Loftus from the Langney Area Panel visited the school to present a cheque for £700 that will be used to buy much needed tools and gardening equipment.
Darren Tabone is the Year 6 Teacher and Healthy Schools Coordinator and is overseeing the initiative. He said:
“Pupils want the ‘living classroom’ to include areas for growing flowers and vegetables, encouraging wildlife, picnic and quiet areas, pond and perhaps a sculpture or art zone. The children will begin with designing and working on an organic garden.”
The Langney Area Panel works with Eastbourne Homes and uses their environmental improvement budget to implement suitable projects in the area.
Any local residents who have ideas on how to spend the funds should get involved with the Area Panel where they can put their views forward and point out any problems or issues.
