Youth Development Opportunities
Hampden Park and Willingdon Trees (HPWT) Area Panel have been working hard to improve youth development opportunities and create diversionary activities for youths in Hampden Park and Willingdon Trees. The panel have been working with a group of youths from the area to start up a youth group in Hampden Park. The group have named themselves Hampden Park Youth Group and have been benefiting from funding from the Eastbourne Crime Reduction Partnership which has paid for football training, including an outdoor pitch at Hamden Park Sports Centre and a coach from Brighton University.
Eastbourne Homes has donated footballs to the group and they have been awarded a Barclays Spaces for sports Coaching Pack which includes such things as training bibs, training cones, whistles, water bottles, stop watches, T-shirts, baseball caps, clipboard, first aid kit, team bag and tote bags. The group are now looking for competitive games of football and will be joining a local league in the near future, so watch this space for updates
The Panel are also interested in setting up a Youth Club in the area and will be working with Eastbourne Homes and other agencies to get this project up and running. In the meantime they are undertaking a youth survey in conjunction with Eastbourne Homes and Old Town, Langney and Central Area Panels. The survey will be carried out in secondary schools and youth clubs across Eastbourne and the information used by the area panels to plan youth projects and set up a Youth Panel to sit on Eastbourne Homes resident engagement structure. All youths filling in a survey will be entered into a prize draw, which is for 15 youths to go to the David Beckham academy for the day.
