We are looking for young BME people to join a new group. Sessions are free and will include fun, positive, creative and inspirational activities such as:
Music production
Media skills (Photoshop training)
Peer mentoring, cultural awareness
Issue based theatre and cinema
Film making skills
Setting up a web based radio station
Trips and outdoor activities
The sessions will also help young people by developing their confidence by providing support and guidance to build self esteem and will provide a safe space to create new friendships and discussions around:
Isolation, identity and culture
Racism, racist bullying/incidents in school language and stereotyping
Substance misuse
Barriers to personal development and achievement
We would encourage young people to have a say and be involved in the programming and running of activities and deciding on the name and ground rules for their group. Hopefully, we will be able to identify individual young people who could be trained in Youth work/group work skills to support the sessions. This may provide career options for future employment.
If you are interested contact either Traci Gasson, Equality and Diversity Co-Ordinator or Jed Murray, BME Young People's Support Worker, Youth Development on 01273 479790 or 07825 926550
