Protection from Harassment Act 1978 This creates a criminal offence of harassment. It also creates a new type of civil claim, allowing individuals who are harassed to claim damages and/or seek a court order to stop the harasser from continuing the harassment. The Protection from Harassment Act 1997 introduces four new criminal offences;
Harassment
Fear of violence (hate crimes)
Breach of civil injunction
Breach of restraining order
These eliments are built into our Tenacy Agreement and Anti-Social Behaviour Policy, including our reporting racist incidents and hate crimes procedure and our disability harassment procedure. Monitoring of these issues is undertaken through the Race, Disability and Gender Equality Schemes.
