Domestic Violence Policy

Eastbourne Homes Anti-Social Behaviour Policy sets out our approach to domestic violence.  We will work in partnership with statutory and voluntary organisations to provide advice and support for victims.  Customers, their families and visitors committing acts of domestic violence will be breaking the terms of their Tenancy Agreement and could be at risk of losing their homes.  Please see below for more information.

Principles
  • We have a policy of zero tolerance towards domestic violence
  • We will provide support for victims
  • We will deal with the perpetrators

Application

Victims
Where a resident can show there have been acts of violence or
Serious threats of violence by one member of a household against
another person or persons in that household we will help them in
any of the following ways:

  • Help them to contact specialist advice and support agencies, e.g. women’s aid, police, domestic violence units, solicitors, etc
  • Help them to apply to the Local Authority for re-housing (temporary or permanent) under homelessness legislation
  • Offer temporary or permanent alternative accommodation
  • Offer a referral to a different area under a mobility scheme
  • Improve the security of the property for the victim if they remain in the home
  • Give advice on the legal position regarding the tenancy. This will include giving advice on the options for ending a joint tenancy by the party fleeing violence and in seeking non-molestation orders.

Perpetrators
If an incident of domestic violence has taken place, we will take appropriate action against the perpetrator if they remain in the property.  We will take enforcement action as follows:

  • For unauthorised occupancy, if the tenancy has been ended by the party fleeing domestic violence
  • For a breach of the tenancy agreement if the other party is a tenant and the tenancy has not been ended

If you experience or have been a victim of domestic violence and want to talk to someone in confidence, please telephone your Area Housing Officer or click on the left to be directed to a directory of organisations or on the right to view a full copy of our Anti-Social Behaviour Policy.
