Gardens
As an Eastbourne Homes tenant it is your responsibility to maintain your garden. If you allow it to become an eyesore or nuisance to neighbours, we may send in a contractor to clear it, and send you the bill.
However, if you are elderly and finding difficulty with this, perhaps you might have a relative or friend who could help. We also have a new service where we are trying to match tenants who do not have a garden but miss this activity.
Fences, Hedges and Shrubs
If you wish to put a fence or hedge around your front garden you will need to complete an Application for Alterations form, available from our offices or to download below. If you live on an Open Plan Estate (an area with no enclosed front garden) consent may be granted subject to certain conditions being met. For more information, contact us at our offices at 1 Grove Road for a form: 01323 415339. Please note that hedges must not exceed 1.8 meters (6ft).
Residents are allowed to plant trees and large shrubs in your garden but you will be responsible for maintaining their growth and keeping them trimmed and pruned. You must not let them cause damage to property which includes root damage, or be a nuisance to neighbours by blocking light.
Sheds and Greenhouses
You need permission to put a shed or greenhouse in your garden. You will need to complete an Application for Alterations form, available from our offices at 1 Grove Road . You will be responsible for maintaining it whilst you are in your property. If you leave the property, you must 'make good' the area.
